What to Watch Out for When Owning an RV
Some common RV repair can be mechanical in nature, and very similar to car repair, while others can often be compared to housing repairs, such as roof and toilet replacement. RV’s are still vehicles even though they can be lived in, so they will have mechanical issues that are very similar to cars, such as dead batteries. Roof patching or replacement is sometimes necessary for a lot of the older RV’s. In addition, the likes of plumbing problems such as leaky toilets can become an issue as the vehicle gets older.
The majority of repairs can be achieved through DIY projects, however, some of the more dangerous repairs, like electrical wiring, must be left to the professionals. As a vehicle, regular RV maintenance will be needed on the brakes, engine, and other parts which allow the RV to run safely and reliably. Like a car, RV’s do require scheduled maintenance in order to keep them in good shape, and occasionally something may go wrong and requires maintenance between each scheduled visit.
For instance, flat tires, dead batteries, and dead headlights can happen to both cars and trucks, and to RV’s. And depending on the age and usage of the RV, these unexpected mechanical problems are quite common. Overall, new RV’s only need scheduled maintenance and some repairs for mechanical issues that are under warranty.
Roof replacement is another common RV repair. As the vehicle gets older, the roof can often start to sag and develop leaks. These can be repaired using vinyl fabric and vinyl cement, however, the cabinets or other such fixtures often need to be removed in order to reach the repair area. Anyone that has the right know-how or time to research such projects, this repair can be a great DIY project.
